The best Inquiries Start with Interest

Knowledge building Pedagogy

The foundation of Knowledge Building Pedagogy is that ideas are always improvable. That learning should start at the level of knowledge the child already has. That it should be constructed collaboratively through the sharing of ideas, theories and knowledge. The goal is to understand deeply and grow knowledge through scaffolding children’s understanding.

I am going to start exploring this over the course of this semester to understand the principles, methods and research behind this Pedagogy. I want to know how this can be used effectively in classrooms.

Having explored Inquiry and project based learning I knew there had to be something more. Something where the two came together with student contentedness and collaboration.

I know that all good inquiries start with interest and that this is true for knowledge building so this is where I started with this inquiry. Exploring how interest encourages curiosity, which in turn encourages learning, which then encourages more interest and curiosity.

Here is a great video by Ramsey Musallam about how he changed his approach to teaching to spark interest! Check it out!

Watch my video about what I learned about interest and inquiry as a start my learning journey into Knowledge Building. Next week I am planning to explore the start reading the book “An Ethic of Excellence” by Ron Berger. I am also going to explore the principles of Knowledge building Pedagogy.

Check out my new video about my inquiry into Knowledge building pedagogy! It is my first video so my video making skills need some work!
