Exploring Resources for Knowledge Building

This week I started to really get inspired when I listened to the first episode of the pod cast “Innovation at work exploring the KB principles” Check it out at https://soundcloud.com/thelearningexchange/episode-1-innovation-at-work-exploring-the-kb-principles

Listening to the children sharing ideas of prior knowledge that others could make connections to inorder to grow their own knowledge. It really helped me to think deeper about the concept of community knowledge and improvable ideas. The importance of idea development and refining both the questions and ideas for learning made me think deeper about how we view children’s ideas and questions as improvable through investigation, research and collaboration.

I also loved hearing about a teacher and student prospective!

For this weeks inquiry I decided to read this article sent to me by a peer. It outlines the principles of Knowledge building. It is the framework the guides the community towards social growth. I loved the idea that one principle can “unlock” the next principle.

Check out This great article for more information on the principles of KB!

Thinking deeper about KB I want to know who else is using this in Canada. I hope to connect with the Accredited Independent School Association to find out if they know what schools are actively using this Pedagogy! I hope to connect with teachers who are using this and find out more about their experience!

I also have started reading “An Ethic of Excellence” by Ron Berger to find out more about the idea of improvable ideas.
